Edmonton is advancing affordable housing through ambitious investments and strong partnerships at all government levels.

 

In July 2025, the federal and provincial governments pledged $203 million for 25 projects, creating over 2,300 units across Alberta.

 

Social Services Minister Jason Nixon emphasized support for young adults, students in downtown Edmonton, and people experiencing homelessness in Calgary, aligning with Alberta’s goal to build 82,000 units by 2031.

 

Earlier, Ottawa invested $46 million to renew 1,431 homes in Edmonton, including funds for sustainable projects like Civida’s Central Village through the Canada Greener Affordable Housing program.

 

Edmonton’s new Infill Infrastructure Fund earmarks $39 million to aid multi-unit housing in revitalizing neighborhoods.

 

The city also secured $175 million from the Housing Accelerator Fund, aiming for 5,700 extra homes by 2026 and prioritizing growth near transit corridors.

 

Additionally, Edmonton and Treaty 8 First Nations formalized cooperation for Indigenous-led housing, supported by $8.3 million in city grants.
